Arrest Made for Capital Murder in Infant Death

On January 2nd 2018 patrol officers and emergency medical personnel responded to 134 Coral Ln. in Dothan, AL to a report of an infant child not breathing. Once on scene they found the parents of the three month old child performing CPR. The child was taken to Flowers Hospital emergency room by ambulance.

After all life saving measures were taken the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Medical personnel were unable to determine a cause of death and the child was sent to Alabama Department of Forensic Science to have an autopsy performed.

On April 24th investigators received the results of the autopsy. Medical examiners determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and torso. The autopsy results showed various internal injuries that were not visible upon external examination.

On April 25th investigators re-interviewed the parents of the child. As a result it was determined that the father of the child, Rolando Castillo Jr., (30) of South Ball St. Slocomb, AL, was the person that caused the injuries resulting in the infant’s death. Due to the age of the child Rolando Castillo Jr. was charged with Capital Murder (less than fourteen years of age) and is being held with no bond.

The investigation into the murder is ongoing and all persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Aggravated Child Abuse Arrest

On April 14th Dothan Police responded to a report of Child Abuse at Flowers Hospital. Investigators learned that a two year child had suffered burns on his foot and hand. The child also had bruising on the facial area, abdomen, and buttocks.

The child was transferred to the Children’s of Alabama burn unit in Birmingham where it was determined that the child suffered 2nd Degree burns. Investigators were informed that the injuries suffered by the child were consistent with child abuse.

During the course of the investigation multiple persons were interviewed and Investigators charged Kewan Deshawn-Obrien Walker, 22, of Trillium Circle in Dothan with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse. His bond has been set at $100,000.00.

Two Dothan Men Arrested for Capital Murder

On March 25th at approximately 10:50 p.m. Dothan Police Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle at Stringer Street A.M.E. Church, 1900 Stringer St., while officers were in the area they discovered a wrecked vehicle at the intersection of Lake St. and Allen Road.

One of those vehicles was occupied by Ms. Breunia Jennings, 23, of Dothan. Ms. Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Several people at the scene were detained and taken to the Dothan Police Department for interviews. After interviews were completed Jamie Emmanuel Townes, 26, of S. St. Andrews St., Dothan AL was arrested for Capital Murder. A “no bond” has been issued.

Also arrested for Capital Murder was Kenneth Glasgow, 52, of W. Powell St., Dothan. A “no bond” has been issued in this case.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Dothan Man Arrested for Capital Murder

Shortly after 8 PM on Saturday, March 17th Dothan Police received a call of a possible death at the residence located at 611 Hodgesville Road, Dothan. Once officers arrived, it was apparent that this was a crime scene. 91 year old Mabel Fowler was determined to be the victim of a homicide.

Investigators and Crime Scene Technicians worked throughout the evening and well into Sunday morning processing the scene and collecting evidence.  Throughout the course of the investigation we located, interviewed and charged one person with committing the heinous murder. We have charged Joe Nathan Duncan, 58 years old of Dothan, with one Count of Capital Murder. He has been placed in the Jail under a “no bond”.

The investigation is continuing and more detail will be released at a press briefing on Monday morning at 10:30 AM.

Dothan Police Charge Several in Local Robberies

On March 14th the Dothan Police Department executed seven search warrants throughout the City in connection with the recent robberies that occurred March 9th through March 12th. Five Search Warrants were executed in the early morning hours. These search warrants were served at the following locations:

  • 700 block of Chinook St.
  • 800 block of Whiddon St.
  • 100 block of Kohler Ct.
  • 100 block of Naomi Dr.
  • 600 block of Wheat Street

Robbery at the Hobo Pantry

On March 12th at approximately 11:40 p.m. Dothan Police responded to a robbery at the Hobo Pantry in the 2400 block of Reeves Street. An employee stated that three black males entered the business, armed with firearms,  and demanded cash from the register. The employee opened the register and the suspects were able to obtain approximately $150.00 in cash and flee the scene on foot.

The suspects were described as three black males, one wearing a black backpack, black sweatshirt, and black running pants with red stripes and black shoes. Another suspect was described as wearing a black sweatshirt, camouflage pants, black shoes. The third suspect was wearing a grey pullover sweatshirt, black pants, and red shoes. The third suspect also had shoulder length dreds.

Robbery at Dollar General

On March 11th at approximately 7:50 p.m. Dothan Police responded to a report of a robbery at the Dollar General in the 1000 block of Montgomery Highway. Once on scene officers discovered that two black males entered the business armed with handguns and demanded money from the employee.

The employee was able to escape from the scene and no injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene on foot and were last seen running towards the rear of the store. No money or property was obtained during the robbery.

One of the suspects was described as being approximately 6’0″ tall and 180 lbs., wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a camouflage bandana covering his face. The other suspect was described as being approximately 5’7″ tall and 140 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, a black backpack with white stripes, and a silver bandana covering his face.

Robbery at Kangaroo Convenience Store

On March 9th at approximately 11 p.m. Dothan Police responded to a robbery at the Kangaroo Convenience Store in the 300 block of Ross Clark Circle. Once on scene they discovered that three black males entered the business with bandanna’s covering their faces. All three subjects were armed with handguns. They demanded money from the employee and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. All three suspects were described as black males wearing black hoodies and black pants.

During the same time as the store robbery, three black males wearing blue hoodies and blue jeans approached a customer at the gas pumps armed with handguns. The suspects demanded that the customer empty his pockets. They escaped on foot with a cell phone, wallet, and a pack of cigarettes.

There were no injuries during the robberies and the robberies are still under investigation. The Dothan Police Department requests that anyone with any information about these robberies to call 334-615-3000 or call CrimeStoppers at 334-793-7000.

Dothan City School Employee Arrested for School Employee Soliciting a Sex Act with a Student under the Age of 19 Years

On March 9th Dothan Police Investigators arrested Phillip Erin Burns of Sweetwater Drive, Dothan and charged him with School Employee Soliciting a Sex Act with a Student under the Age of 19 Years.

Investigators were notified by Dothan City Schools of the allegations against Burns, an employee at Girard Middle School and Northview High School. The investigation revealed that Burns engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with a student on a social media messaging app.

Burns was subsequently arrested and a bond amount of $6,000.00 was set.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Drug Trafficking Arrest

On 02/23/2018 Vice Investigators conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was involved in a narcotics investigation. The investigation revealed that drugs were being brought into Dothan by the driver to be distributed throughout the county. During the course of this traffic stop Investigators recovered methamphetamine (Ice) and a firearm.

Investigators have arrested and charged 34 year old Joshua Drake Howard, of Ready Road, with Drug Trafficking. Additional charges are expected and no further information can be released at this time. Bond will be set at a later time.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
