Chief of Police
All personnel in the Dothan Police Department report through the chain of command to the Chief of Police, William Benny. The chief directly supervises all division commanders, Professional Services, Quartermaster and Fleet as well as the police accountant. Administrative Services Bureau
This bureau handles the administrative operations of the department. This bureau includes the City Jail, Animal Services, Records Division, Ordinance Compliance, Technical Services, crime analysis, accreditation as well as the Electronics Maintenance Unit.
Investigative Services Bureau
This bureau handles all criminal investigations and is divided into units that focus on certain areas of crime including Burglary/Theft, Forgery/Fraud, Special Investigations, Vice, and Violent Crimes. The bureau also handles the FBI Task Force, polygraph unit and Forensic Services Unit.
Patrol Services Bureau
This bureau is concerned with patrol operations, crash investigations and traffic enforcement. Patrol is the largest division in the department and is considered the backbone of the department. The bureau includes the Patrol Division, Traffic Division and School Crossing Guards.
Special Operations Bureau
Special Operations includes the Community Service Division, which operates various community outreach programs, the school resource and protection officer program and crime prevention. In addition, the Communications Center, Special Response Team, and Training Division report to the Special Operations Bureau Commander.
