Juvenile Shot During Drive-By

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at approximately 6:45 PM, Dothan Police Officers responded to the 900 block of East Selma Street for gunshots fired into an occupied residence. The residence was occupied by several individuals, one of which was a juvenile that was struck in the hand. The extent of the juvenile’s injury is not known at this time; further medical evaluation will be conducted to determine if the juvenile will lose a finger or not.

The Dothan Police Department is seeking help from the local community in identifying the person or persons responsible for this incident. The suspect vehicle has been described as a dark color Dodge Charger with blue camouflage on the sides. Dothan Man Murdered on Alexander Drive

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, at approximately 6:58 P.M., officers responded to the 1300 block of Alexander Drive to the report of a firearm assault in which one person had been shot. When officers arrived on scene, they confirmed there was in fact one victim that had already been transported to Southeast Health by a personal vehicle. Officers arrived at the hospital and discovered the victim suffered from a single gunshot to the upper torso. The victim was in critical condition and was immediately taken to surgery where he succumbed to his injury. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Alfonso Morrissette, of Dothan.

No further information is known at this time. We are in the preliminary stage of the investigation, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.

Update: Suspect Identified in Miles Lane Murder

Update:  Kevone Devontay Smith turned himself in to the Dothan Police Department.  He has now officially been charged with one count of Capital Murder and two counts of Intimidating a Witness.  He has no bond at this time.

 

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, the Dothan Communication Center received a report of an individual shot in the 800 block of Miles Lane. Dothan Fire and Rescue along with Dothan Police Officers arrived on scene and found the victim lying in the middle of the roadway. Paramedics attempted life saving measures but determined the individual was deceased. The victim, 35-year-old, Samuel Jeffrey Gray, of Dothan, had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

This has been an ongoing investigation since that time. After much time and effort, we have identified a suspect involved in this incident. Kevone Devontay Smith, 21 years old of Dothan, currently has one outstanding warrant for Capital Murder, and two outstanding warrants for Intimidating a Witness. He is being sought by the Dothan Police Department. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Smith is asked to call the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3000. Shooting During Peanut Festival Parade Leaves One Dead

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, while the National Peanut Festival Parade was on going, a group of individuals engaged in a fight near the intersection of West Main Street and Montana Street. During the fight, at least one individual produced a gun and fired into the group hitting two victims. One victim, 22-year-old Garyoun Tyrone Fluellen, of Dothan, received one gunshot to the upper torso. He was transported to Southeast Health where he was pronounced deceased. The second victim received two gunshots to the upper torso and was transported to Southeast Health where he underwent surgery. He is in stable condition.

Investigators are in the preliminary stage of the investigation and have identified two persons of interest. We are asking the community for assistance in locating the two following individuals:  Mekhi Nasir Lawton, 18 years old of Dothan; and Mark Quinten Small Jr., 18 years old of Dothan.

Out of an abundance of caution, extra police officers will be on hand for the Peanut Festival tonight at the fairgrounds.  We have no reason to believe that this incident is any way connected to the Peanut Festival, rather this lawless behavior by individuals with no regard for anyone else took place where thousands of people gathered to watch a parade.  We will not stop until the person(s) responsible for this act are in custody and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Man Found Dead in the Street

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at approdximately 5:20PM, the Dothan Communication Center received a report of an individual shot in the 800 block of Miles Lane. Dothan Fire and Rescue along with Dothan Police Officers arrived on scene and found the victim lying in the middle of the roadway. Paramedics attempted life saving measures but determined the individual was deceased. The victim had a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences where a forensic examination will be conducted.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old, Samuel Jeffrey Gray, of Dothan.

UPDATED: Two Suspects Caught for Diamond Theft

On Monday 10/3/2022, at approximately 2:15 PM, a white male suspect entered a Jewelry Store inside Wiregrass Commons Mall posing as a potential customer. While looking at several pieces of diamond jewelry the clerk was showing him from the display case, the suspect snatched several pieces of the jewelry and ran out of the store. The suspect entered a black vehicle with dark tinted windows and the vehicle fled. Information was obtained during the investigation that made officers think the suspect and vehicle could possibly be from another state west of Alabama. This information was disseminated to all surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Several hours later, an alert deputy in Baldwin County, Alabama was looking for a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description while working on Interstate 10. The deputy stopped a vehicle that was later determined to be the suspect vehicle from Dothan, AL. The vehicle was occupied by two individuals: Colby Allen Ladnier, and Alberto Esquivel II, both of Houston, TX. A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the recovery of evidence related to the crime that occurred in Dothan earlier in the day. Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department had charges related to their encounter. Dothan Police Department will be obtaining warrants for both individuals for Theft of Property First Degree. It is unknown when Ladnier and Esquivel will be transferred to Dothan to be formally charged.

Man Steals Diamonds

On Monday 10/3/2022, at approximately 2:15 PM, a white male suspect entered a Jewelry Store inside Wiregrass Commons Mall posing as a potential customer. The suspect entered a black SUV or Hybrid vehicle with dark tinted windows and a paper tag then drove away.

Suspect Vehicle

UPDATED: Identified (Help Identify Robbery Suspects)

UPDATE:  Thanks to the assistance of our community, both suspect have been identified.

On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, the Dothan Police Department responded to a strong-arm robbery in the 3000 block of Montgomery Highway. It was determined four individuals became belligerent with the employees of the establishment and began destroying property inside. During their rampage, one of the suspects commented they were going to rob them. Another suspect used a cell phone and videoed the incident. While walking on the countertop of the business, one suspect reached down and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register.

House Fire Determined to be Arson

On Monday, 9/19/2022, Dothan Fire Department and Dothan Police Department responded to a house fire in the 1100 block of Sumter Street in Dothan. Dothan Fire Department extinguished the blaze and determined the cause of the fire was a result of arson. Two individuals had been seen running from the residence moments before the fire. Those individuals were located and identified as juveniles. Both were charged with Arson Second Degree.

Motorcycle Traffic Fatality

On September 19, 2022, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the 300 block of Ross Clark Circle. The crash, which involved the driver of a motorcycle and a pickup truck, resulted in the death of the driver of the motorcycle, Blade Corley of Cottonwood.
