(DOTHAN, Ala.) On September 15, 2026, around 4:00 am, the Dothan Police Department received a report from a local hospital that a male victim arrived with a gunshot wound to the back. Information received by responding officers was that the victim’s last known location was near the 200 block of West Powell Street. Officers responded to that area but were unable to locate a crime scene. Investigators responded to the hospital to start the investigation.
The investigation revealed that the victim was on a business property in the 700 block of North Oates Street. A person living on property saw an individual enter a vehicle on property and fired one round from a handgun. The suspect, identified as David Tyrone Shaw (57) of Dothan, fired another round striking the individual in the back as he was running away. Alabama law does not allow for use of deadly force on a subject to simply protect property. Shaw has been arrested and charged with one count of Assault 1st degree.
