Dothan Man Charged With Robbery

On May 20, 2022, Dothan Police Officers and Investigators responded to a robbery of a person call that occurred in the 300 block of W. Burdeshaw Street. The suspect presented a handgun and demanded money from the victim. With information provided by the victim and witnesses, attempts were made to locate the suspect in the nearby area, but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Fortunately, on the night of May 25, 2022, the victim and one of the witnesses to the robbery saw the suspect and recognized him. They were able to follow the suspect while they called police to the area.  Police made contact with the individual and was able to identify him as Franklin Jermaine Baker.  It was confirmed Baker was the person responsible for the earlier robbery that took place. The handgun used in the robbery was also recovered.

Franklin Jermaine Baker, 29 years old of Dothan, was charged with Robbery First Degree. His bond was set at $60,000.00.

We would encourage anyone involved in or familiar with any type of crime to not put themselves in harm’s way. If you recognize someone potentially responsible for any type of crime, notify authorities and let them know where the person was last seen.  Your individual safety is the greatest concern in any situation.

Around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, two unknown black males robbed the HOBO Pantry Convenience Store located in the 3000 block of Denton Road.  At least one of the suspects was armed with a hand gun and fired one round inside the business.  The other suspect went behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business.  The two suspects left the store on foot and were last seen running southeast from the business.  No one was injured in the incident and police continue to investigate.

Two Dothan Women Charged With Robbery

On April 20, 2022,  a robbery and assault of a male victim occurred in the 200 block of West Adams Street in Dothan.  The allegations are that while the victim was walking down the street, two females approached him in a vehicle.  The females confronted him and demanded his property while threatening to spray him with pepper spray.  While running form the suspects, the victim dropped some of his property.  The two suspects took the victims property and got back in their vehicle and left.  While leaving, the suspect’s vehicle struck the victim causing minor injury.  As a result of these allegations, Tatyanna Shambrea Musgrove, 23 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Robbery Second Degree.  Her bond was set at $30,000.00.  Matilda Gabrielle Young, 22 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Robbery Second Degree and one count of Assault Second Degree.  Her bond has been set at $45,000.00.

Dothan Police Searching for Gas Station Robber

On March 28, 2022, at approximately 7:30 PM, a lone suspect entered the Chevron Gas Station in the 100 block of East Cottonwood Road, armed with a handgun, and demanded money from the clerk.  The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6′ 0″ tall, weighing approximately 245 pounds,  wearing a long sleeve black shirt, blue jean shorts, a red toboggan, a  medical mask, and gloves.

Once inside the business, the suspect pointed the handgun at the clerk and demanded the clerk put all the money in a plastic bag.  The suspect left the business with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running to the rear of the business where he possibly entered an unknown type of vehicle to make his getaway.

The Dothan Police Department is asking that anyone with information that will lead to the identity and or capture of the person(s) responsible for this crime contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3000 or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 334-793-7000.  The Dothan Police Department will protect the identities of anyone who provides information.

Ashford Man Arrested in Monday Robbery Spree

On October 25, 2021 at about 3:24 pm, Dothan Police Officers responded to a local restaurant in the 1800 block of East Main Street for a suspicious circumstance call.  The officers, once on scene, determined the call to be an armed robbery of a business.  The suspect was described as a white male wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, and in possession of a black handgun.  The suspect left the area in a black passenger car, possibly a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  No money was taken.

A short time later at 4:08 pm, the Dothan Communications Center received a call of an attempted break-in of a motor vehicle in the parking lot of Wal-mart northside.  The suspect was described as a white male wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, and occupying a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  The suspect was last seen leaving the Wal-mart parking lot. No property was reported missing.

At 4:46 pm, Dothan Police Officers were dispatched to a local liquor store in the 2700 block of Ross Clark Circle for another armed robbery of a business.  The suspect was described as a white male wearing a blue hoodie, khaki cargo shorts, and leaving the scene in a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo south on Ross Clark Circle towards Hartford Highway.

About ten minutes after the robbery of the liquor store, an alert patrol officer noticed a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 3300 block of South Oates Street with a white male in a blue hoodie going from the Monte Carlo to another vehicle.  The officer detained the subject for investigation.  It was determined that the subject, Aaron Casey Hurtado (25) of Ashford, AL, had been involved in all three crimes.  After obtaining a search warrant for both vehicles, Investigators found a green shirt, black handgun, blue jeans, and liquor bottle in the vehicles that tied Hurtado to all three crimes.

Aaron Casey Hurtado has been arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery 1st degree and one count of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.  Hurtado is being held without bond on these charges with more charges expected.  The Dothan Police Department will vigorously pursue and arrest those responsible for violent crimes in the City of Dothan.

GA Man Arrested for Attempted Murder and Robbery

On September 14, 2021, Dothan Police Officers responded to a gas station in the 1100 block of Ross Clark Circle for reports of a man with a firearm.  Before officers arrived on scene, reports were updated that shots had been fired and a vehicle had been stolen from the scene.  Investigators arrived on scene to begin the investigation.  According to victims and witnesses, the suspect, Steven Smalley (48) of Alto, GA, approached the victim, armed with a handgun, and demanding the victim’s vehicle.  When the victim refused, Smalley fired one round towards the victim but did not strike him.  Smalley was able to obtain the vehicle keys from the victim and drove off with the vehicle.

A BOLO was issued for the vehicle as investigators worked the crime scene.  Shortly after the BOLO was issued, Smalley was located on Ross Clark Circle driving towards the crime scene.  Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and took Smalley into custody.

Steven John Smalley (48) of Alto, GA was charged with one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Robbery 1st degree and is being held without bail.

19 Year Old Charged with Two Gas Station Robberies

On December 19, 2020 around 11:00 pm, an unknown suspect entered a gas station in the 3400 block of Denton Road armed with a firearm and demanded money from the clerk.  The suspect collected an undisclosed amount of cash, vaping equipment, and cigars then fled the scene on foot.  Investigators had been working leads in an attempt to identify the person responsible.

On January 27, 2021 at about 05:00 am, an unknown suspect, believed to be the same suspect as the prior robbery, entered the store armed with a firearm and demanded money from the clerk.  The suspect collected an undisclosed amount of cash, vaping equipment, and cigars then fled the scene on foot.  Investigators canvassed the area near where the robbery occurred and came to an address in the 2100 block of Oakdale Driver, which is a short distance from the store.

Investigators were speaking with a 19 year old man who came to the door.  Through some standard questions, the man, identified as Romaine McFarland, confessed to robbing the store on both occasions.  A search warrant was conducted on the residence and items were found that incriminated McFarland in both robberies.  Among the items found was cash determined to be from the robbery, cigars like the ones taken, vaping equipment like the ones taken, and clothes that were similar to clothes worn by the suspect in both robberies.

Romaine McFarland (19) of Dothan was arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery 1st degree with bonds totaling $120,000.

Murder of Perry Griffin Solved After 13 Years

During the early morning hours of June 26, 2007, Perry Griffin, an employee of Panhandle Converters and Scrap, was going to go out of town to purchase items for the business.  Perry was preparing to leave the business with a large amount of cash, as he had done before numerous times.  As Perry was preparing to leave the parking lot of the business, two suspects armed with weapons confronted him. Shots fired during Armed Robbery Lands Two in Jail

On July 7, 2020, Dothan Police Officers responded to an armed robbery in progress at a local check cashing business in the 1100 block of North Alice Street.  According to reports by the business employees, a suspect entered the business armed with a handgun and demanded money.  The suspect fired shots towards three employees at the back of the business.  As the suspect was fleeing out of the front door, the suspect fired more shots towards an employee behind the counter.  No employees were injured during the incident.  Investigators were able to identify the suspect through employees who recognized the suspect, identified as Deshone Donald, since Donald was in the business minutes earlier cashing a check.

On 7/10/2020, the U.S. Marshal’s Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force apprehended Donald and the alleged getaway driver, Fredrick Ricks, in Quincy, FL.  Dothan Police Department would like to thank the Task Force for their assistance in this case.

Deshone Elesquial Donald (31) of Quincy, FL was charged with four counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Robbery 1st Degree and is being held without bond.

Fredrick Carl Ricks (28) of Quincy, FL was charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree with a bond of $10,000.

 

Dothan Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Assault

On 5/17/2020, Dothan Police Officers responded to an assault call in the 200 block of West Main Street.  Officers made contact with the victim, who was unable to tell police what happened.  The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division began the investigation and on 5/19/20 developed a lead on a potential suspect.  According to witness statements, the suspect, identified as Anthony Dozier (33) of Dothan, encountered the victim in the 200 block of West Main Street to conduct an illegal narcotics transaction.  When the victim was not willing to pay, Dozier began assaulting the victim with a blunt object.  Dozier, after assaulting the victim, is alleged to have taken an undetermined amount of cash from the victim.  Dozier was apprehended Tuesday with the assistance of Patrol 3rd Squad Officers.

The victim in the assault is listed in critical condition.

Anthony Dozier (33) of Dothan was charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery 1st Degree and is being held without bond.  Dozier is also charged with Intimidating a Witness and has a bond of $10,000.
