Two Arrests made in Separate Vehicle Burglaries

On 10/7/2017, Sky Kornegay (18) was arrested on two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. The offenses occurred in the areas of Byrd Lane and Corey Lane. Evidence of the crimes were in Kornegay’s possession at the time of arrest. Bond was set at $15,000.00 for each case.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Shoplifting Arrest

On 10/07/2017, Officers responded to Belks on a shoplifting call. Amy Stokes Brunson, (31) was arrested for the theft of $552.00 worth of store property. Her bond was set at $1,000.00.

Burglary 3rd Arrest

On 10/08/2017, Bryce Tavares Myrick (41) was arrested for Burglary 3rd Degree after an investigation into the theft of a cash box and safe from a motel in the 2800 block of Ross Clark Circle. His bond was set at $10,000.00.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Domestic Violence 2nd/ Burglary Arrest

On 10/09/2017, Contavis Deon Harris (29) was arrested for Domestic Violence 2nd/ Burglary 2nd after a domestic incident where he broke into a residence in the 400 block of North Alice and assaulted the resident. His bond was set at $30,000.00.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

One Arrest for Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon

On 10/09/2017, Officers responded to a Domestic Violence call involving Willie Kentrell Russaw (35). During their investigation, it was discovered that Russaw had fired a handgun during the altercation. Russaw was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon. His bond was set at $15,000.00.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Narcotics Investigation Leads to Arrests

On 10/05/2017 Vice Investigators concluded an investigation into narcotics being sold in the 1400 block of Greenwood Drive following concerns of community members. Investigators recovered a half pound of high grade marijuana.

Investigators have arrested and charged 26 year old Desmond Tyron Patterson, 1000 block Barfield Road Cowarts, with possession of Marijuana 1st degree after narcotics was found in his vehicle.

Investigators have arrested and charged 28 year old Brandon Daryl Grooms, 1400 block of Greenwood Drive, with possession of Marijuana 2nd degree after narcotics was found in his residence.

All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary Arrests X6

On 10/4/2017, Investigators arrested two subjects, Kelsie Deshaun Garcia-Mata (18) and Rafael Salazar Rubio Jr. (20) for the September 11th burglaries of three businesses in the 600 block of West Carroll Street. Bonds were set at $7,500.00 and $15,000.00 respectively.

Vehicle versus Pedestrian Press Release

 

On October 2nd at approximately 7:05 pm, Dothan Police responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 2700 block of S. Oates Street. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2010 BMW was travelling southbound on S. Oates Street when the pedestrian, a 37 year old African American female, was struck. The pedestrian was transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center where she is in critical condition.

UPDATE:

The pedestrian from the crash has passed away from her injuries.  She has been identified as 37 year old Lovette Jefferson, of Dothan, Alabama.  The crash is still under investigation by the Dothan Police Department Crash Team.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jefferson family during this difficult time.

 

 

 

Chemical Endangerment of a Child

On 9/28/17 Christy Nichole Winn (33) was arrested for Chemical Endangerment of a Child.  Due to the sensitivity of the case no more information can be released at this time.   Bond was set at $15,000.00.

All subjects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Capital Murder

On 9/29/17, Branddon Bigham (16)  and Devonta Thornton (16) were transferred from Juvenile Court  to the Houston County District Court to be tried as adults in the Capital Murder case  which occurred on Collier Street, May 16, 2016 . They are being held with NO BOND.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
