Joint Investigation Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges

On Tuesday 11/27/2018 the Ashford Police Department and the Dothan Police Department Vice Division executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of Bruner Mill Road concluding a six week investigation involving the distribution of illegal narcotics throughout Houston County.

Investigators seized approximately one pound of crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy (MDMA), Oxycodone, marijuana, and two firearms from the residence.

Investigators have arrested and charged 55 year old Henry Hunter Jr, of Bruner Mill Road with Drug Trafficking (Meth), Drug trafficking (Opium), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDMA), Possession of Marijuana 2nd degree, and Carrying an Altered Firearm.

Investigators have arrested and charged 35 year old Alissa Little, of Ridgecrest Loop, with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Meth).

The Dothan Police Department Vice Division worked closely with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Vice Division through the course of this investigation. We would like to thank Ashford Police Chief Vann for his assistance in this case which will definitely make a positive impact in communities throughout the county.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Arrest Made in Domestic Related Murder

On 11-25-2018 Dothan Police Officers responded to an Edged Weapon Assault in the 400 block of Florida Ave. When Officers arrived, 32 year old Mikel Cummings was found inside his residence with a stab wound to his chest. Cummings was rushed to Southeast Health where he underwent emergency surgery.

During surgery Cummings succumbed to his injury. Police Investigators identified 26 year old Nafeesah Shante Thomas as the suspect in the stabbing. The case was determined to be domestic related. Thomas and Cummings were involved in a verbal altercation during which she stabbed Cummings in the chest with a kitchen knife.

Nafeesah Shante Thomas was arrested and charged with one count of Murder. She is currently being held in the Houston County Jail with No Bond.

Robbery 2nd Arrest

On November 20, 2018 at approximately 5:00 p.m., 19 year old Tyrek Jamarr Pettus and 20 year old Kim’mesha Laquese Anderson entered Belks Department store and started shoplifting. While attempting to leave, Loss Prevention confronted the suspects and an altercation occurred. Both subjects are being charged with Robbery 2nd and a $30,000.00 bond each.

Additional Financial Exploitation of the Elderly Charges Filed Against Saffold

In June of 2018 Dothan Police Investigators began an investigation into a complaint of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly. The victim, 79 years old, reported that Kevin Saffold represented himself as a family member at a local dental office. Kevin Saffold and Anterica Danielle Mayfield obtained dental work after having the victim sign paperwork.

Between 03-20-2018 and 06-13-2018, Kevin Saffold and Anterica Danielle Mayfield accompanied the victim to Dothan Cosmetic Dentistry and posed as her nephew. Both received dental worked and charged it to the account of the victim without her knowledge of what was occurring. The victim stated that Saffold told her to sign a form to obtain a credit card. Kevin Saffold then charged to her account $5750.00 worth of dental procedures to her account.

On 06-13-2018. Anterica Danielle Mayfield went to Dothan Cosmetic Dentistry and charged on the account of the victim $2150.00 for dental work as well. The elderly victim didn’t know these charges were being filed on her account.
The victim discovered these charges after a credit history was performed and the charges were discovered. No payments have been made on the account by Kevin scaffold or Anterica Danielle Mayfield.

Kevin Saffold was arrested and charged with one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly 1st degree with a $50,000.00 bond. Anterica Danielle Mayfield was arrested and charged with one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly 2nd degree with a $15,000.00 bond. More charges are pending.

Dothan Man Arrested for Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, Possesseion of Forged Instrument and Theft

In June of  2018 Dothan Police Investigators began an investigation into a complaint of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly. The victim, 79 years old, reported that Kevin Saffold represented himself as a paralegal and would help her build her credit to purchase a home.

On June 7th 2018 Saffold accompanied the victim to Dothan Kia and posed as her nephew while she purchased a 2016 Dodge Ram truck in the amount of $43,888.25. The victim stated that Saffold told her that the purchase would boost her credit score and he would make the payments on the vehicle.

On June 9th 2018 Saffold again accompanied the victim to Dothan Kia. He once again posed as her nephew and had her purchase a 2015 BMW X1 in the amount of $30,846.24. Saffold again told the victim that he would make the payments on the vehicle and this would assist her credit score to buy a home.

The victim reported that she began receiving phone calls from the two finance companies requesting payments for the vehicles that were in Saffold’s possession. No payments were made on either vehicle.

During the investigation into the Financial Exploitation of the Elderly police received another complaint of Saffold being in possession of a voided title to a vehicle. On July 24th 2018 Saffold entered Title Cash in the 2600 block of Montgomery Hwy. and pawned the title to a Lincoln car in the amount of $2,175.00. The title to the Lincoln car was previously pawned by Saffold at Loan Max on July 16th 2018 in the amount of $4,000.00. Mr. Saffold did not make payments on the title pawns for either of the businesses.

Kevin Saffold was arrested and charged with two counts of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly 1st degree, one count of Theft by Deception 2nd degree and one count of Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree. He has bonds totaling $85,000.00.

Arrest Made for Two Counts of Possession of Child Pornography

On October 17th 2018 Dothan Police arrested 65 year old Kevin George Hebert and charged him with three counts of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly 1st degree and one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly 2nd degree. During the course of the investigation a search warrant was served on Hebert’s phone.

The search warrant revealed two images of child pornography. A second search warrant was obtained for the Hebert’s home located in the 100 block of Charlotte Ct., in Dothan. More electronic devices were recovered from the home and search warrants will be obtained for those devices as well.

Hebert was charged with two counts of Possession of Obscene Matter containing a visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts. Hebert has bonds totaling $30,000.00. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Peanut Festival Worker Arrested For Narcotic Charges

On Tuesday 11/06/2018 Vice Investigators received information that an individual employed with Reithoffer Shows was selling narcotics around the fairgrounds.

Investigators stopped a car believed to be involved in the 3300 block of South Oates Street yesterday afternoon. During the course of that traffic stop narcotics were recovered from the vehicle to include cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin.

Investigators then searched a travel trailer at the fairgrounds and recovered more narcotics to include marijuana, LSD, and more cocaine.

Investigators have arrested and charged 35 year old Joshua Fischer, of Rio Cuarto Street, Punta Gorda, Florida, with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana 1st degree. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Two Arrested for Multiple Vehicle Break-ins

On October 29th 2018 at approximately 10:00 P.M. Dothan Police performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Hartford Hwy. and Ross Clark Circle. The vehicle stopped matched the description of a vehicle that was suspected in several vehicle break-ins in Dothan and Houston County. The vehicle break-ins occurred from October 7th thru October 21st 2018.

Two of the occupants in the vehicle were identified as 19 year old Makayela Ruth Smith of Dothan and 21 Year old Joshua Patrick Yance of Dothan. During the stop officers discovered evidence from some of the vehicle break-ins in Houston County and Dothan City limits. As a result of the traffic stop Makayela Ruth Smith was arrested and charged with four counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and has a bond amount of $10,000.00. Joshua Patrick Yance was also arrested and Charged with four counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and also has a bond amount of $10,000.00.

This case is still under investigation by the Dothan Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Department. More charges are pending.

Victim Burglarized, Robbed and Assaulted

During the early morning hours of Saturday, September 15, 2018, the Dothan Police Department was called to the 100 block of Radford Circle in reference to a report of a robbery and assault. Upon arrival, officers determined the door to the victim’s residence had been kicked in by two black male suspects.  The suspects had their faces covered with shirts and at least one of the suspects was armed with a long gun.  While one suspect rummaged through the victim’s house looking for money and valuables, the other suspect physically assaulted the victim.  While the one suspect was assaulting the victim, the shirt came off of his face and the victim recognized him as a previous acquaintance.  The victim was able to provide the one suspect’s identity to police.  The suspects took the victim’s wallet and cell phone before making their getaway.  The victim’s injuries were minor and did not require medical treatment.  Investigators have located and charged the one suspect, 22-year-old Con’travius Deunte Parks of Dothan, with one count of Burglary First-Degree and one count of Robbery First-Degree with a $150,000.00 bond on each charge.  The investigation is ongoing and the Dothan Police Department asks that anyone with information related to this incident please contact the Dothan Police Department at 615-3000 or CrimeStoppers at 793-7000.

Press Release for Murder Investigation

On Sept. 10, 2018 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Dothan Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in the 300 block of Pettus St. Dothan. Moments later Officers arrived scene to discover a white male, later identified as 59-year-old Neal Craft Barber, laying in the driveway.  It was obvious to the Officers that Barber had suffered some sort of trauma as Dothan Fire Medics arrived to medically assess the victim.  It was determined that Barber had succumbed to his injuries before the Officers or Medics arrival and he was not transported to a medical facility.

Upon examination of Barber and the surrounding scene, it was determined that he was the victim of an assault that occurred sometime in the early morning hours on Sept. 10th.  Dothan Police Patrol Officers located and detained several persons of interest at the scene in a storage building at the rear of the residence.  Investigators obtained a search warrant for the property and discovered that the storage building was the physical crime scene where Barber was assaulted.  All of the people located in the storage building were transported to the Dothan Police Department.

Once the crime scene was processed and interviews were conducted by Dothan Police Crime Scene Investigators and Criminal Investigators, it was discovered that earlier that morning there was an argument that led to a physical altercation. During that altercation Barber suffered multiple injuries caused by blunt force trauma to his head that were not survivable.  Probable cause was established to charge two people with the murder of Barber.

Charged with Murder are 24-year-old Dontavious Givens, of Pettus Street Dothan, and Jatavion Lakeldrick Collins, of Monument Street Dothan. Both individuals arrested are being held with a no bond. Both suspects will be scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing in Houston County Circuit Court.
