Traffic Fatality at West Saunders Road and Blackman Road.

On October 2, 2023, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of West Saunders Road and Blackman Road. A motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle were involved in the accident. Upon arrival of officers, it was determined that the driver of the motorcycle, Scott Baxter of Dothan, had sustained critical injuries. Mr. Baxter passed away at the scene from his injuries. The occupant of the other vehicle only sustained minor injuries from the accident. The accident is currently under investigation by the Dothan Police Traffic Division.

 

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Baxter and to those involved in the accident.

 

 

 

Traffic Fatality on South Oates Street

On August 30th 2022, at approximately 12:00 pm the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck at South Oates Street and Southgate Road.  The victim was pronounced deceased at Southeast Health.  The driver is a white male, Dwight Birge, 69-years-of-age.

The crash was involving a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and a late model Buick Lesabre.  This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Birge family.

Traffic Fatality at Ross Clark Circle and Haven Drive

On August 15, 2022, at approximately 8:00 am the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck at Ross Clark Circle and Haven Dr.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver is a white male, Foy Wambles, 79 years of age.

The vehicles involved were an older model Dodge pickup truck and a newer model Dodge pickup truck pulling a trailer. The driver of the older model pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dothan Fire Department.  This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.

Traffic Fatality on Montgomery Hwy

On May 22nd, 2022, at approximately 6:05 pm the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck on Montgomery Highway and Barrington Road.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver is a Hispanic Male, Benjamin Flores, 35 years of age.

The vehicle involved was an older model pickup truck.  The truck left the roadway and crossed Barrington Road after skidding through the grass and struck a telephone pole. This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Flores family.

Pedestrian Struck On South Oates

On May 10th, 2022, at approximately 11:00 pm the Dothan Police were dispatched to a pedestrian being struck in the 2300 block of South Oates Street near the Flying J truck stop.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The name of the victim has not been confirmed at this time. Information will be released upon notification of next of kin.

The vehicle involved was not on scene and is unknown at this time.  This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team and additional information will be released when available.

Traffic Fatality at Redmond Road

On February 24, 2022, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of Flynn Road and Redmond Road. Two vehicles were involved in the accident. Upon arrival of officers, it was determined that the driver of the silver Dodge minivan, Judy Oppert, of Taylor, Alabama was deceased at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident is currently under investigation by the Dothan Police Traffic Division.

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Oppert and to those involved in the accident.

Arrest Made in Hit and Run with Injuries

On January 6, 2022, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a hit and run accident at the intersection of West Main Street and Moates Street. The two victims were treated at the scene for injuries and a juvenile was transported to the hospital for serious injuries and is currently in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene occupying a white Chevrolet Tahoe.

The suspect, Christian Wade Haney (24) of Ashford, Alabama was identified through strong community help and coordination with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 10, 2022, Haney was arrested for Felony Leaving the scene of an Accident and was transported to the Houston County Jail.

The Dothan Police Department want to thank the Wiregrass Community and Houston County Sherriff’s Office for their assistance in this case. The Dothan Police Department would also like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims of this accident.

Pedestrian Strike on Ross Clark Circle.

On December 13, 2021, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a pedestrian strike in the 2800 block of Ross Clark Circle. The vehicle that was involved was traveling south bound on the Ross Clark Circle.  Upon arrival of officers, it was determined that the pedestrian, Laura Lee Cook, 54, of Dothan, Alabama was deceased at the scene. The accident is still under investigation by the Dothan Police Traffic Division at this time.

Traffic Fatality on South Oates

On April 23, 2021, Dothan Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the 4600 block of South Oates Street. A small SUV was traveling south bound on South Oates Street and struck James Allen Sharp, 41 years of age, of Bonifay, Florida. Mr. Sharp was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our deepest sympathies to Mr. Sharp’s Family.

 

Traffic Accident Arrest Made

On October 1, 2020, Dothan Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Parramore Rd. The crash, which involved two vehicles, resulted in the death of Kayla Metcalf, severe injuries to three juveniles in her vehicle and severe injuries to the passenger in the other vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver of the at-fault vehicle, Ty’Kerria Ni’Chelle Duncan, was operating the vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.

Duncan has been charged with Murder, three counts of Assault 1st degree, one count of Assault 3rd degree and placed in Dale County Jail with no bond at this time.
