Mother Charged with Aggravated Child Abuse

On October 23, 2020, a Dothan Police School Resource Officer was notified by a local school faculty member that a 5 year old was having a medical issue that was potentially caused by an individual.  The juvenile was taken to a local hospital for treatment for a serious physical injury.  The Dothan Police Department Special Investigations Unit was notified of the case and began their investigation.

After multiple interviews and reviewing medical records for the juvenile, it is believed that on the morning of October 23 the suspect, Chiquita Hunter, was disciplining the juvenile and began to kick the juvenile in the upper torso.  By kicking the juvenile, Hunter caused serious injuries to the juvenile.  On October 27, 2020 after interviewing Hunter, she was arrested in connection with this case.

Chiquita Nicole Hunter (25) of Dothan was charged with Aggravated Child Abuse with a bond of $60,000.

Threat to school received in 911 call

We are asking for assistance from the community in identifying the caller who’s voice was recorded when contacting the Communications Center today.

At approximately 12:45 PM we received a 911 call from an anonymous female who stated that she was at school and “someone said they were going to shoot the school up.” The caller disconnected before providing any additional information.

Additional police officers were sent to Dothan High School as a precaution because it appears the call originated from that area. School administrators also placed the school on “soft lockdown.”

This could possibly have been a prank phone call but our resources were deployed anyway. We need your help identifying the person in this recording. If you think you know who it is, please call the Dothan Police Department at 793-0215.

Student Carries Loaded Gun to School

On Monday, 8-13-2018, a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Dothan High School was notified of a student on campus who was possibly in possession of a gun. The SRO immediately made contact with the 17-year-old suspect, removed him from class and conducted an investigation.  The SRO determined the student was in fact armed with a handgun. Criminal Investigators were called to the scene and began conducting an investigation.  It was determined the pistol was reported stolen after an automobile break in of an unlocked vehicle in Dothan.  The suspect was taken to the Dothan Police Department for processing. He has been charged with one count of Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Pistol and three counts of Breaking and Entering a Vehicle.  The investigation is still ongoing at this time.   More charges are possible. Due to the suspect being a juvenile, we will not be releasing his name or any information about previous disciplinary/criminal actions.
