Dothan Police Investigating Murder from Weekend

On September 6, 2020, Dothan Police received a call of a person shot in the 700 block of South Lena Street.  Upon arrival, the victim was located in the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound.  The victim was pronounced dead on scene.  The victim was identified as Christina Yvonne Moore (50) of Dothan. The investigation is ongoing at this time.  Investigators will continue to follow leads on the person(s) responsible.

Suspect From Honeysuckle Road Search Apprehended with Multiple Charges

On September 2nd, 2020 Dothan Police Narcotics Investigators attempted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a Motel in the 2800 block of Ross Clark Circle. The driver of the vehicle, Courtney Jamal Byrd (26) of Kinsey, AL, was wanted for warrants in Dothan, Houston County, and Abbeville AL. Byrd fled from officers and drove his vehicle into a fence at the rear of the motel and fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex.

Officers were able to gather in the area and began a search for Byrd. Dothan Police Patrol Officers, Canine Teams, and Investigators were involved in the search, as well as, The Dale County Sheriffs Office Helicopter, and Houston County Deputies. After hours of searching Byrd was located in the wood line behind a residence in the 1200 block of Honeysuckle Road. He was apprehended by a Police Canine Team  and received minor injuries from his capture. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries. Byrd was admitted into the hospital for dehydration and is currently being monitored.

Byrd has nine charges from the incident on September 2nd. His charges are Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd Degree, Attempting to Elude, Obstructing Governmental Operations, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. No bonds have been set at this time and additional charges are pending.

Byrd was also wanted for two warrants from Dothan. Those warrants are Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to Distribute and Attempting to Elude.

He had six Failure to Appear warrants with the Houston County Sheriffs Office. Two Possession/Receiving Controlled Substance, Burglary 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Attempting to Elude, and Drug Trafficking.

Abbeville Alabama has three warrants on Byrd. One count of Certain Persons forbidden to Possess a Firearm, Felon Registration Card, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

 

Dothan Teen Arrested for Murder

On August 25, 2020, Dothan Police Officers responded to a shooting the 1300 block of Galaxie Drive.  When Officers arrived on scene, they discovered the victim of the shooting had been transported by private vehicle to a local hospital.  The victim died from his injuries at the hospital shortly after arriving.  The victim has been identified as Majic Collins (18) of Dothan.

During the investigation, Investigators learned the shooter approached the house from a park behind the residence.  After a brief conversation, gunfire erupted and left Collins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Investigators identified the suspect as Darris Williams. Williams was apprehended on August 31, 2020 and charged with Murder.

Darris Quinta Williams (17) of Dothan has been charged as an adult with Murder and has a bond of $150,000.

Dothan Police Investigating Murder of 18 Year Old

On August 25, 2020, Dothan Police Officers responded to the 1300 block of Galaxie Drive in reference to a firearm assault.  Police learned that, prior to their arrival, the victim was transported to a local hospital.  The victim died from his injuries and was pronounced at the hospital.  The victim was identified as Majic Collins (18) of Dothan.

Arrest made in Murder on August 9, 2020 near Imani

On August 9, 2020 at about 2:00 am, Dothan Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of West Powell Street.  When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim, Cortez Hill, in his vehicle and he had been shot multiple times.  Despite life-saving efforts, Hill succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Criminal Investigators have been working since that day to bring this case to a close.  Throughout the investigation, Investigators processed evidence, executed many search warrants, and interviewed several witnesses to the incident.  A suspect was developed and investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest on August 20, 2020.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Troy Police Department, and the community for their assistance in closing this case.

Demingus Montez Humphrey (26) of Troy, AL has been charged with Capital Murder in the death of Cortez Hill.  Humphrey was apprehended on August 20, 2020 in Troy, AL by the US Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Dothan Police Investigators.

Woman Arrested for Facilitating Sodomy

On August 9, 2020, the victim went to a local hospital complaining of pain.  When an Officer came to make a report, Patricia Davis, who was at the hospital, came forward and admitted to facilitating sodomy against the victim.  An investigator was assigned the case and conducted more investigation.  During the investigation, it was discovered that, multiple days between the months of April and July 2020, Davis had injected the victim with prescription drugs without his consent that caused him to lose consciousness.  While the victim was unconscious, Davis let at least two other people sodomize the victim.  More arrests could be forthcoming.

Patricia Ann Davis (67) was charged with 20 counts of Sodomy 1st degree and 10 counts of Assault 2nd degree with bonds totaling $450,000.

Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Burglary and Intimidating a Witness

On August 9, 2020, Dothan Police Officers received a call about a possible kidnapping in the 100 block of Arrowhead Drive.  When officers arrived on scene, the suspect, James Johnson III, fled out of a bedroom window and attempted to flee the scene.  Officers were able to apprehend the suspect.  Through interviews with witnesses, Officers determined Johnson III unlawfully entered the victim’s residence armed with a handgun.  When the victim got inside the residence, Johnson III produced the handgun and held the victim against her will.

Johnson III was attempting to deter the victim from going to a legal proceeding involving Johnson III.  The firearm that was recovered and used by Johnson III was revealed to be stolen.  The Dothan Police Department remains committed to protecting victims and witnesses that report on crimes.

James Morris Johnson III (21) of Dothan was charged with Burglary 1st, Kidnapping 1st, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd, and Intimidating a Witness.  Johnson III is being held without bond on Burglary and Kidnapping charges.  Johnson III has bonds totaling $20,000 on the other two charges.

Shooting on Southport Lands One in Jail

On August 1, 2020, Dothan Police Officers responded to East Southport Street in reference to a subject that was shot and crashed his vehicle into a tree.  Investigators responded to the scene and determined the shooting occurred in the 500 block of South Appletree Street.  Through the investigation, Investigators developed a suspect, Trayvon Leon Dorsey, and issued warrants for his arrest in relation to the shooting.

On August 7, 2020, a Dothan Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3200 block of Reeves Street.  In the backseat, Dorsey was found attempting to disassemble a firearm.  Dorsey was arrested for his outstanding warrant.  While looking at the firearm in Dorsey’s possession, it was discovered the serial number had been filed off the weapon.

Trayvon Leon Dorsey (19) of Cuthbert, GA was charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of an Altered Firearm with bonds totaling $75,000.

Dothan Police Investigating Homicide

On 8/9/2020 at about 0200 hours, Dothan Police Department received reports of a person shot in the 100 block of West Powell Street.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim in his vehicle not responding.  Despite life saving efforts by police and medics, the victim died from his injuries on the scene.  The victim has been identified as Cortez Fitzgerald Hill (25) of Dothan.

Murder of Perry Griffin Solved After 13 Years

During the early morning hours of June 26, 2007, Perry Griffin, an employee of Panhandle Converters and Scrap, was going to go out of town to purchase items for the business.  Perry was preparing to leave the business with a large amount of cash, as he had done before numerous times.  As Perry was preparing to leave the parking lot of the business, two suspects armed with weapons confronted him.
