Pedestrian Strike on Ross Clark Circle.

On December 13, 2021, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a pedestrian strike in the 2800 block of Ross Clark Circle. The vehicle that was involved was traveling south bound on the Ross Clark Circle.  Upon arrival of officers, it was determined that the pedestrian, Laura Lee Cook, 54, of Dothan, Alabama was deceased at the scene. The accident is still under investigation by the Dothan Police Traffic Division at this time.

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Cook and to those involved in the accident.

 

Traffic Fatality on Westgate Parkway

On November 23, 2021, Dothan Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred in the 1500 block of Westgate Parkway. The crash, which involved two vehicles, resulted in the death of Jerry Hutto, of Enterprise, Alabama. The driver and occupants of the other involved vehicle received minor injuries. The accident is still under investigation at this time by the Dothan Police Department Traffic Division.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank the Enterprise (AL) Police Department in their assistance in this investigation.

Motorcyclist Injured in Hit and Run Accident

On June 26, 2020, Dothan Police Traffic investigators were dispatched to a hit and run accident involving a motorcycle in the 2600 block of Nottingham Way. The victim was transported trauma alert to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Austin Tyler Enfinger (23) of Dothan, Alabama is wanted for questioning in this case. Enfinger was last seen in the area of Old Campbellton Highway in Dale County turning south onto Curry Town Road occupying a gray 2010 Suzuki SX4. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Enfinger is encouraged to call the Dothan Police Department 334-615-3000.

Traffic Fatality on South Oates

On April 23, 2021, Dothan Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the 4600 block of South Oates Street. A small SUV was traveling south bound on South Oates Street and struck James Allen Sharp, 41 years of age, of Bonifay, Florida. Mr. Sharp was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our deepest sympathies to Mr. Sharp’s Family.

 

Weekend Traffic Fatality

On November 27th at 9:13 pm, officers were dispatched to a Pedestrian Struck call in the 3300 block of Montgomery Highway.   The vehicle involved was a Ford F-150, traveling South bound on Montgomery Highway. The vehicle left the scene and was located a short while later.

The victim, Patrick Shaffer, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck was identified as Rashaun Richardson, of Fort Gains, Ga. The driver was charged with two felonies and transported to the Houston County Jail.

The crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Traffic Division.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Shaffer Family.

Traffic Accident Arrest Made

On October 1, 2020, Dothan Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Parramore Rd. The crash, which involved two vehicles, resulted in the death of Kayla Metcalf, severe injuries to three juveniles in her vehicle and severe injuries to the passenger in the other vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver of the at-fault vehicle, Ty’Kerria Ni’Chelle Duncan, was operating the vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.

Duncan has been charged with Murder, three counts of Assault 1st degree, one count of Assault 3rd degree and placed in Dale County Jail with no bond at this time.

Traffic Fatality

On June 21st at 3:00 AM, Dothan Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 1000 block of Cottonwood Rd. A single vehicle was traveling South on Cottonwood road and left the roadway causing the vehicle to strike a sign pole. The Passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger has been identified as 21 year old Nikeya Brown, of Pansey, Al. The driver of the vehicle was rushed to Southeast Health and is listed in critical condition.

The crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Crash Team.

Crash on East Burdeshaw

A Dothan Police Officer traveling on East Burdeshaw Street witnessed a vehicle coming towards him lose control and crash entrapping the driver and catching on fire. Within seconds two additional officers arrived to assist and were able to extinguish the fire. Dothan fire department responded and the patient was able to be taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The extent of the driver’s injuries are unknown but a preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have been under the influence at the time of the crash. Further charges may be pending following the investigation.

Moderate injuries treated following crash involving juveniles

The Dothan Police Department is on the scene of a crash involving moderate injuries in the 2300 block of South Oates Street.

Two vehicles were involved in a crash during which a van occupied by 11 juveniles overturned.

Parents and guardians of all children involved have now been notified and have arrived on scene. Four juveniles have been transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

A preliminary investigation has revealed the van was being driven by an unlicensed juvenile, age 14, at the time of the crash.

Members of the crash team, patrol and juvenile division are on scene to further investigate in accordance with our policies and will work closely together. Further charges may be pending.

We would like to remind our citizens to observe all aspects of the law regarding seat belts, passenger occupancy, and requirements of drivers on Alabama roadways.

We would like to thank the Dothan Fire Department for top-notch services on this call. While police communicated with parents and began the preliminary investigation DFD triaged and treated 13 patients. We are thankful for the dynamic partnership, training and practice public safety demonstrates as one to work through situations such as this.

Dothan Police Investigating Crash Involving Cyclist

On July 28th, 2019, at about 8:35 PM, Dothan Police responded to a crash involving a passenger car and bicycle in the 2600 block of Flynn Road.  When police arrived, it was determined the cyclist was travelling West on Flynn Road when it was struck from behind by the car.  The car then left the scene.  The cyclist received serious injuries during the crash.
