DPD K9 Range Training

Anytime we can brag about how wonderful the canines that serve and protect you are, that’s exactly what we do! Did you know that Dothan has one of the best groups of canines because we continuously train for situations they may face in the real world. Just as it is important for officers to train with firearms it is equally important for our canines to train at the range. What’s really cool is that we take the same precautions with our dogs as we do with humans, for example did you know that our dogs wear hearing protection on the range?! Just because you can’t see them in the pictures above, don’t be fooled they are all wearing internal ear plugs and don’t mind it at all!

K9 Seminar day 4

Day 4 of the K9 seminar was a huge success. After three outstanding days of training and certification handlers got to put their dogs through an exciting and fun series of competitions to see who is the best of the best! Pictured here is just a taste of the patrol competition. While moving through a dark building filled with smoke, obstacles, flashing lights, loud sounds, and other distractions that any team on duty could face any day of the week in a real life situation, handlers had to transition seamlessly between locating suspects and locating narcotics. This was an outstanding exercise that all thoroughly enjoyed.

K9 seminar day 1

Police canines are awesome! They have the ability to break down and eliminate odors which allows them to be trained to indicate on specific odors such as narcotics. The great thing is they don’t see this as work what they know is when they successfully indicate an odor for which they have been trained a ball magically appears and they get to play! Many different dogs are featured here indicating the presence of an odor at this printer that in fact contained marijuana. One picture shows that moment that dogs dream about when the ball magically appears falling from the sky!

23rd annual K9 seminar

23rd annual K-9 seminar has begun today make sure you follow us all week long as we will be posting a lot of great information and photographs! Noticing out of town canine cars around town?! That is why they are here!

Internet Scam Leads to Armed Robbery

On the evening of March 19, 2018, investigators were called to the 1300 block of Alexander Drive in reference to a robbery of a person. It was quickly determined the victim was responding to an internet ad to purchase an item for sale.  When the victim arrived at this agreed upon location to make the purchase, the suspects snatched the money from the victim and left with the money and item they were alleging was for sale.  During the commission of this crime, at least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun that was intended to be used if the victim resisted during the robbery.

A K-9 was deployed and tracked to a nearby neighborhood where one suspect was located and taken into custody. As the investigation continued, the second suspect was located and taken into custody as well.  The two juvenile suspects have been arrested and charged with Robbery 1st degree.
