Sex Offender Violates Restrictions

On February 04, 2019, Kendall Ward, a registered Adult Sex Offender, was arrested and charged with violating Adult Sex Offender – Prohibited Residence Locations law.  Due to the nature of Ward’s previous conviction, he violated this law by conducting an overnight visit in the presence of a minor who was prohibited by this code.

 

K9 seminar day 1

Police canines are awesome! They have the ability to break down and eliminate odors which allows them to be trained to indicate on specific odors such as narcotics. The great thing is they don’t see this as work what they know is when they successfully indicate an odor for which they have been trained a ball magically appears and they get to play! Many different dogs are featured here indicating the presence of an odor at this printer that in fact contained marijuana. One picture shows that moment that dogs dream about when the ball magically appears falling from the sky!

Three Arrested for Weekend Robbery

On January 26th 2019 Dothan Police responded to a report of a Robbery that occurred in the 900 block of W. Main Street. The victim reported that he was meeting Andrew Da’Shawn Owens (18) at the location to sell some stereo speakers. During the transaction they were approached by another black male Wearing a toboggan and a black jacket and a white male wearing a green jacket. The suspects were armed with knives and demanded money.

The suspects took a wallet, pocket knife, and an igloo cooler and fled on foot. After the Robbery the victim drove away and notified law enforcement. Owens drove away and went to a near by convenience store and was seen picking up the other males suspects involved in the robbery. Those suspects were later identified as 16 year old  Savion Omarion Jones and 19 year old Joseph Duncan Owens. Property belonging to the victim was recovered close to the scene of the crime and returned to the victim.

All three suspects were charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree and each have a $30,000.00 bond.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

 

Two Arrested for Robberies from Walmart and Publix

On January 24th 2019 at approximately 7:50 A.M. Dothan Police responded to a report of a Robbery at Walmart on Montgomery Highway. The victim reported that as they were getting in their vehicle to leave a black male approached the passenger side window and asked for a cigarette. As the victim rolled down the window the suspect snatched a purse from the passenger seat and entered a vehicle and fled the scene.

At approximately 9:30 A.M. officers responded to Publix on W. Main St. in reference to another robbery with the same description. The victim of this robbery reported that as she entered her vehicle in the parking lot a black male approached her and snatched her purse away and fled the scene a silver/grey Nissan Murano.

Patrol officers located the vehicle in traffic at the intersection of Montgomery Hwy. and Mall Drive. A traffic stop was initiated and the occupants of the vehicle were identified as 23 year old Eddie Joe Seago and the other occupant was a 16 year old juvenile. Property belonging to the victims was located inside the vehicle. Both occupants were taken to the Dothan Police Department for questioning.

The 16 year old juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and one count of Robbery 2nd Degree. He was transported to the Juvenile Diversion Center.

Eddie Joe Seago was also arrested and charged with one count of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and one count of Robbery 2nd Degree. He has bonds totaling $45,000.00.

All Persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Robbery Suspect Arrested

On January 10th 2018 at approximately 2:00 A.M. Dothan Police responded to a Robbery at the Shell Station in the 2200 block of Reeves Street. The employee reported that a black male entered the store with a black hoodie covering his face, blue jeans, and dark shoes. The male placed a piece of candy on the counter and as the employee opened the register the male brandished a handgun and demanded money. The male fled on foot towards the rear of the business with $187.00 in cash.

Officers arrived and began searching in the area for the suspect. They located a black male matching the description hiding behind a nearby business. He was taken into custody and identified as 19 year old Latavion Deshaun Marsh of Dothan. Marsh was found to be in possession of the money from the robbery and a black handgun.

Marsh was arrested and charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree. His bond has been set at $25,000.00.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Police Lieutenant Graduates FBI National Academy

The Dothan Police Department is pleased to announce the graduation of Police Lieutenant Rachel David from the 274th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  Lieutenant David is a 16-year veteran of the Dothan Police Department and currently serves as Commander of 3rd Squad in the Patrol Services Bureau.  Lieutenant David represented Dothan in a class that included members from all 50 states, 23 International countries, five military organizations, and seven federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program offers ten weeks of advanced, executive-level leadership training for officers who have been selected through their proven records as professionals within their agencies.

Since 1935, a total of 51,519 graduates now represent the alumni of the FBI National Academy. The Dothan Police Department has a total of four graduates of the FBI National Academy, that are currently employed with the agency.  Lieutenant David is the first female representative to attend from the Dothan Police Department and one of only 2,305 female graduates since the program’s inception.

Arrest Made in KFC Robbery

On Monday December 10th 2018 Dothan Police Officers responded to a report of an Armed Robbery at the Kentucky Fried Chicken located in the 1800 block of Ross Clark Cir. Reports were that an ex-employee entered the business armed with an AR-15.

When Officers arrived they found the suspect outside of the business still in possession of the gun. He was taken into custody without incident. Employees advised that Da-Nyiss Joshua Smith, 19 of Dothan, entered the business armed with the rifle and demanded his last paycheck. One of the employees was able to call for police and there were no injuries involved in the incident.

Smith was charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree. He is being held with a $200,000.00 bond. All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

 

Threat to school received in 911 call

We are asking for assistance from the community in identifying the caller who’s voice was recorded when contacting the Communications Center today.

At approximately 12:45 PM we received a 911 call from an anonymous female who stated that she was at school and “someone said they were going to shoot the school up.” The caller disconnected before providing any additional information.

Additional police officers were sent to Dothan High School as a precaution because it appears the call originated from that area. School administrators also placed the school on “soft lockdown.”

This could possibly have been a prank phone call but our resources were deployed anyway. We need your help identifying the person in this recording. If you think you know who it is, please call the Dothan Police Department at 793-0215.

Dothan Police Respond to Shooting on Third Ave

On December 5th 2018 Dothan Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Third Avenue. The shooting occurred around 5 P.M. and police arrived shortly after.

The 24 year old male victim was found laying inside of a house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Witnesses stated that a black GMC SUV with pink lettering on the back window drove by and they heard five gunshots. After the shots they discovered that one person was struck in the abdomen.

The  victim was transported by ambulance to Southeast Health with non life threatening injuries. He was rushed to surgery and is now listed in stable condition.
