Gordon Man Charged with Murder

In March 2022, the Dothan Police Department began an investigation into a domestic violence situation in which the female victim reported she had been assaulted by the suspect, Robert Allen Maddox Jr.  At that time, Mr. Maddox was charged with Domestic Violence Strangulation while the investigation into other allegations continued.

It was determined at the time of the assault the victim was pregnant with their child.  During the assault, Mr. Maddox is alleged to have intentionally caused the victim to have a miscarriage.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, on June 9, 2022, Robert Allen Maddox Jr., 24 years old of Gordon, AL, was charged with one count of Murder.  His bond was set at $1.5 Million.

Man Charged with Attempted Assault

On May 26, 2022, Sirrico Santonio Bennett attempted to shoot the victim while the victim was driving in the 400 block of Logue Street in Dothan.

On June 7, 2022, Sirrico Santonio Bennett, 46 years old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Attempted Assault First Degree. His bond was set at $15,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged with Arson

On June 7, 2022, Dothan Fire Department and the Dothan Police Department responded to a report of a structure fire of an apartment building in the 300 block of Sixth Avenue.  A witness observed the suspect, Torenzo Marquis Perry, stack miscellaneous items on top of the stove and intentionally turn the stove on and walk out of the apartment.  Thanks to the quick action of the witness, the fire department was quickly called to the scene and the fire was extinguished before any major damage could occur.

Torenzo Marquis Perry, 25 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Arson First Degree.  His bond was set at $60,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged with Attempted Assault

In November of 2021, a vehicle occupied by five individuals was shot multiple times in the 700 block of Chinook Street in Dothan.  Evidence testing was conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.  Once the test results were complete, warrants were obtained for Keith Shakur Helms.

On 6-4-2022, Keith Shakur Helms, 19 years old of Dothan, was arrested for five outstanding warrants for Attempted Assault First Degree related to the November 2021 incident.  His bond was set at $75,000.00.

Man Charged with Sexual Abuse

On 6-3-2022, Dothan Police Officers responded to the 400 block of North Oates Street to a report of a sexual assault.  It was learned the suspect, Anthon Paul Salmon, approached a female and sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her.  As a result, Anthony Paul Salmon, 37 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Sexual Abuse First Degree, and one count of Attempted Rape First Degree.  He currently has no bond.

Man Assaulted and Robbed at a Local Motel

On May 29, 2022, a man was invited to a local motel by a female acquaintance. While there, the man was assault by two other individuals who were hiding and waiting on him. At least one of those individuals was armed with a weapon. During the assault, the victim was pushed into a large glass window which broke. Pieces of the broken glass cut the victim causing a serious arm injury. The victim had surgery for his injury and is still undergoing treatment. Money was taken from the victim during the assault. Thus far, three individuals have been arrested for this incident.

Rickel Elijah Daniel, 23 years old of Dothan; Desaree Bronbdell Chaffins, 29 years old of Dothan; and Brandy Hope Townsend, 43 years old of Dothan; have all been charged with one count of Robbery First Degree. Their bond was set at $60,000.00 each.

Contractor Charged with Theft from Employer

Between the first part of April and the end of May 2022, Lester Grout III was contracted to do maintenance work for a local hotel.  During this time, Grout took 21 new TVs from the storage room which he had access to as part of his maintenance duties.  He then sold all the TVs at various locations throughout the area.

Man Charged With Chemical Endangerment of Children

On 5/31/2022, Dothan Police Department answered a call in the 200 block of Westmont Drive where it was reported two small children had been left at home alone. One child was reported to have consumed over the counter medication. Officers arrived and confirmed the two children were in fact home alone and had access to narcotics in the home that were within their reach. The guardian of the children, Terry Sims, arrived home from running an errand and stated he had knowledge of narcotics being in the home.  Both children received a medical evaluation at a local hospital and were released.  This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Webb Man Charged With Sodomy

On May 20, 2022, a victim reported to the Dothan Police Department she had been sexually victimized two days prior.  The investigation led to identifying the suspect as Dexter Allen Owens Jr.  It is believed Owens forced the adult female to engage in sexual activities against her will, resulting in this charge.

Dexter Allen Owens Jr., 36 years old of Webb, AL, was arrested and charged with Sodomy First Degree.  His bond was set at $60.000.00.

Dothan Man Charged With Robbery

On May 20, 2022, Dothan Police Officers and Investigators responded to a robbery of a person call that occurred in the 300 block of W. Burdeshaw Street. The suspect presented a handgun and demanded money from the victim. With information provided by the victim and witnesses, attempts were made to locate the suspect in the nearby area, but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Fortunately, on the night of May 25, 2022, the victim and one of the witnesses to the robbery saw the suspect and recognized him. They were able to follow the suspect while they called police to the area.  Police made contact with the individual and was able to identify him as Franklin Jermaine Baker.  It was confirmed Baker was the person responsible for the earlier robbery that took place. The handgun used in the robbery was also recovered.

We would encourage anyone involved in or familiar with any type of crime to not put themselves in harm’s way. If you recognize someone potentially responsible for any type of crime, notify authorities and let them know where the person was last seen.  Your individual safety is the greatest concern in any situation.
