Dothan Man Found Murdered

At approximately 3:20 AM on 9/4/2022, Dothan Fire and Rescue along with Dothan Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Mauldin Road for a medical emergency. It was determined the victim, 48 year old Robert Blount, was deceased as a result of being murdered.  Multiple persons have been interviewed to attempt to gain information related to this incident.

This is an ongoing investigation, but we ask that anyone who has information related to this incident to please call the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3000. Man Charged with Electronic Solicitation

On 9/2/2022 the Dothan Police Department was notified of possible electronic solicitation in which a juvenile received an electronic message from the suspect who was attempting to entice the juvenile to sexual contact. Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the juvenile privacy laws, no further information will be released.

As a result of the investigation, Melvin Reeves, 48 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Electronic Solicitation of a Child. His bond was set at $15,000.00.

Strong Arm Robbery at Dothan Pavilion

Update: The suspects were successfully identified and charges filed.

On 09/03/2022 at approximately 7:15 p.m. patrol officers were dispatched to the Dothan Pavilion Shopping Center, in the area of AMC Theaters, in reference to a disturbance involving multiple juveniles. Upon arrival, it was determined that a juvenile had been physically assaulted by a group of additional juveniles and had a piece of jewelry stolen during the assault.

This incident occurred in the parking lot and did not involve any of the businesses.

Rescue was called to the scene and the victim was treated for minor physical injuries.

Traffic Fatality on South Oates Street

On August 30th 2022, at approximately 12:00 pm the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck at South Oates Street and Southgate Road.  The victim was pronounced deceased at Southeast Health.  The driver is a white male, Dwight Birge, 69-years-of-age.

The crash was involving a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and a late model Buick Lesabre.  This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Birge family.

Man In Serious Condition After Being Shot

On Sunday, August 28, 2022, just after 6:00 PM, officers responded to the 700 block of Hutchins Street in reference to shots being fired. When they arrived, they learned a male victim had been shot and had already been transported to the hospital by personal vehicle. Officers also responded to the hospital and learned the victim had a life-threatening gunshot injury. The victim is currently in serious condition.

The investigation revealed the suspect, Terrance Williams, 18 years old of Dothan, was shooting at another individual down the street and while doing so, struck the victim who was only a few feet away from him. Williams has been charged with Assault First Degree and his bond has been set at $500,000.00. His charge is subject to change depending on the outcome of the victim.

Man Charged with Attempted Murder

On 8/17/2022, two men engaged in a physical altercation while inside a local business in the 1600 block of Westgate Parkway. During the altercation, Steven Tyler McNeill, 31 years old of Dothan, pulled a knife and slashed the victim across his torso causing an extremely large laceration.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he immediately underwent surgery for his injury. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

As a result, Steven Tyler McNeill was charged with one count of Attempted Murder.  His bond was set at $100,000.00.

UPDATE: Dothan Man Charged with Additional Sex Crimes

UPDATE:  As a result of the ongoing investigation, Marcus Grier, 40 years old of Dothan, has now received additional charges. On 8/18/2022, Grier was charged with three counts of Rape First Degree, four counts of Sexual Abuse First Degree, one count of Sexual Torture, one count of Sodomy First Degree, one count of Human Trafficking First Degree, and six counts of Production of Child Pornography. His bond has been set at $3.2 Million. Due to the sensitive nature of this case, no further details will be released.

On 8/8/2022, the Dothan Police Department was notified of a sexual allegation involving a juvenile victim. On 8/10/2022, as a result of the investigation, investigators arrested Marcus Anthony Grier, 40 years old of Dothan, and charged him with one count of Rape Second Degree.  He currently has no bond. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are expected.

Suspects Charged with Pawn Shop Burglary

During the late-night hours of 8/12/2022, several suspects broke into a business in the 3000 block of South Oates Street in Dothan. Once inside, the suspects stole multiple firearms from the business. Suspects used a vehicle to ram their way inside the business causing several thousands of dollars worth of damage to the structure.

The Dothan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) began an immediate investigation. With the help of the community, we began following leads that have now led to the arrest of three individuals thus far, and one additional suspect is still being sought.

The investigation has led to the recovery of only a small portion of the stolen firearms, and the recovery of the stolen vehicle used in the burglary.

Antonio Vanquise Streeter, 33 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Conspiracy to commit Burglary Third Degree.

Freshawn Dejon Butler, 25 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Burglary Third Degree, one count of Receiving Stolen Property First Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief First Degree, and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools.

Richard Alexander Wilson Jr., 26 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Burglary Third Degree, one count of Receiving Stolen Property First Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief First Degree, and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools.

Still being sought is Chrisdeon Sanquez Byrd, 24 years old of Dothan. If anyone knows the whereabout of Byrd, they are asked to call the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3000, or Crime Stoppers at 334-793-7000.

This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges are possible.

 

Swear-in, Promotion and Awards Ceremony

Chief William Benny will present police and civilian promotions. In addition, the newly hired police officers will be sworn in and annual awards will be presented for Life Saving, Medal of Merit, Officer of the Year, and Sworn Supervisor of the Year.

Traffic Fatality at Ross Clark Circle and Haven Drive

On August 15, 2022, at approximately 8:00 am the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck at Ross Clark Circle and Haven Dr.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver is a white male, Foy Wambles, 79 years of age.

The vehicles involved were an older model Dodge pickup truck and a newer model Dodge pickup truck pulling a trailer. The driver of the older model pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dothan Fire Department.  This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.
