Suspect Arrested for Murder in Arlington Street Shooting

On April 18, 2019 Dothan Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Arlington Avenue. Officers arrived and found three victims with gunshot wounds. All of the victims were treated for their injuries at Southeast Health.

On April 23, 2019 one of the victims, Cornelius Jaquan Williams (26) passed away from his injuries. During the investigation warrants were obtained on Larry Antionette Garlington Jr. (23) of Dothan for one count of Murder and one count of Assault 1st degree. No bond has been set in this case.  On April 30, 2019 Garlington turned himself in at the Dothan Police Department and will await court proceedings.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Pursuit of Homicide Suspect

The Dothan Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit of a suspected homicide suspect out of North Carolina who arrived in our city on a stolen vehicle. While investigating this information police located the vehicle and attempted to complete a traffic stop however the driver fled.

The pursuit traveled around Ross Clark Circle to Montgomery Highway where the suspect turned onto Cherokee Avenue, lost control and crashed into a tree sustaining critical injuries. Police on scene rendered first aid until Medics arrived and transported the driver to a local hospital. No other occupants were in the vehicle nor were any other motorists hurt.

Public Safety was our top priority today not only taking this person into custody but also in considering the motorists on the roadway. Police were actively responding to intersections ahead of the pursuit to stop motorists from encountering the oncoming danger.

The Dothan Police Department would like to say thank you to all motorists who cooperated with these emergency stops. We would also like to thank Houston County SO for assisting us. As always a special thanks to our officers that disregarded their own safety to ensure the safety of others throughout this incident.

Two Arrested in Northside Academy Theft

On April 6, 2019 a Burglary and Theft occurred at Northside Methodist Academy in 2600 block of Redmond Road. It was determined that a U-Haul van had entered the property and left with several items totaling over $20,000.  On April 8, 2019 the U-Haul van was located in the back yard of a residence located in the 2600 block of Timothy Road along with some of the property taken during the theft.  After further investigation, W/M Andrew Phillips was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft of Property 1st and Burglary 3rd.  An additional charge of Domestic violence 2nd that occurred on August 6, 2018 in the 3000 block of Evans Dr and Breaking and Entering a Motor vehicle that occurred in 200 block of Petunia Dr.

Along with Phillips, W/M Tevin Coffman was also charged with Theft of Property 1st and Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.

Andrew Phillips has bonds totaling $92,500.00.

Tevin Coffman has bonds totaling $7,500.00.

UPDATE: Traffic Fatality

On April 5th, 2019, the Dothan Police Department’s Crash Team responded to a traffic fatality at W. Main Street and North Woodburn Drive.  After the completion of the investigation, charges have been filed against white male Christopher Britt Hamm, 45 years of age, of Dothan.  Hamm has been charged with one count of Manslaughter ($60,000 bond), and one count of Assault 1st Degree ($60,000 bond).   Hamm was also charged with Driving Under the Influence at the scene of the crash.

Hamm has been processed and transferred to the Houston County Jail. All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Traffic Fatality Press Release

On April 5, 2019, at approximately 11:20 P.M., the Dothan Police Department responded to the intersection of West Main Street at North Woodburn Drive after receiving information of a crash with injuries.

Investigators with the Dothan Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene due to the severity of the crash. Through preliminary investigation, it has been determined a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling west on West Main Street, collided with a 2014 Ford F150 that was traveling on North Woodburn Drive.

The driver of the Ford, Richard Lane Williford, 57 yoa of Dothan, Alabama, succumbed to the injuries received during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Houston County Coroner’s Office. The passenger of the Ford was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence and transported to the Dothan City Jail. More charges are pending following the completion of the investigation.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our condolences to the Williford family in their time of loss.

One Arrest in Friday Shooting in Dothan

On Friday March 22, 2019 Dothan Police responded to a firearm assault in the 600 block of E. Newton Street. Officers found the victim, Lance Bynes (40), laying on the ground with two gunshot wounds. One of the shots entered his right shoulder and the other in his left thigh. Bynes was transported by ambulance to the SouthEast Health Emergency Room with non-critical injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition.

During the investigation officers discovered that the shooter fired six or seven shots in the direction of Bynes and fled on foot in the area. One of the suspects was identified as 19 year old Michael Mantez Gibson of Dothan. Gibson was located and interviewed at the police department.

Once interviews were complete Gibson was charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree and has a $60,000.00 bond. This investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be forthcoming.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Arrest made in Friday Night Murder

On Friday March 15th, 2019 Dothan Police responded to SouthEast Health for reports of a male that was brought into the Emergency Room with a gunshot wound to the torso. Officers arrived and identified the victim as 33 year old Jeremy Rashad Sanders of Dothan. Sanders had one gunshot wound under his left armpit and succumbed to his injury in the Emergency Room.

Officers were able to determine that the shooting occurred in the 700 block of Monroe St. in Dothan. A crime scene was located and Investigators were called to the scene. During the investigation Investigators learned that Sanders was attempting to break up a physical altercation between two females when one of the females, Suctorah Ty’keymah Duncan (23) of Dothan, produced a handgun and fired one round intended for the other female involved in the altercation, but striking Sanders.

Suctorah Ty’keymah Duncan was arrested and charged with one count of Murder and has a $300,000.00 bond. She was also charged with one count of Attempted Murder and has a bond of $200,000.00.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Update and photos… patrol has finished up on Westgate after locating the driver, narcotics, and weapons. The vehicle has been towed and the driver, Courtney Taylor, has been taken to the city jail for booking with charges pending.

Original post…Patrolman are working in the area of the 900 block of WestGate Park after a driver fled from a traffic stop. The driver has been taken into custody and police are doing a secondary search for a possible passenger. Some concerned citizens passing by believed this to be either a robbery or a problem involving the nearest convenience store, that is NOT the case this is a stand-alone traffic stop we have the driver in custody and will update with pictures and information quickly. Also any information that schools in the area have been locked down is not correct police feel no need to lock down schools as there is no immediate threat. Update to follow.
