Stand-Off with Police Ends with Subject in Custody

On 5/09/2020 just before midnight, Dothan Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1600 block of Verde Trail.  When Officers arrived, Sergio Romero-Ontiveros retreated in the residence and barricaded himself in a bedroom upstairs.  After more than three hours of negotiations, Romero-Ontiveros exited the room where he was taken into custody.  Due to the nature of the case, no other information about the offense will be released.  The investigation is ongoing with more charges possible.

Sergio Romero-Ontiveros (37) of Dothan was charged with Sexual Abuse 1st degree and is being held without bond.

Vehicle Theft Arrest

The Dothan Police arrested Alec Killingsworth (18)  for the theft of a pickup truck from the 100 blk of Camellia Court on 2/28/2020. The owner was able to provide video evidence that was posted on the department’s Facebook. Investigators were able to work the tips and charged Mr. Killingsworth with Theft of Property 1st Degree. He is currently being held in the Houston County Jail.

Dothan Police Officer Dragged By An Impaired Driver

On the evening of March 5, 2020, the Dothan Police Department received multiple calls reporting a possible impaired driver traveling on Ross Clark Circle dragging the rear bumper with no headlights on.  An officer made contact with the vehicle and driver in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ross Clark Circle.  The officer observed the driver passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  The officer woke the driver up and obtained her identification.  She was identified as 37 year old female, Jennifer Linsey Viveiros.  When the officer obtained the identification, Viveiros attempted to leave the parking lot by starting the vehicle and putting it in drive.  The officer attempted to stop her by trying to take the key from the vehicle and putting it into park.  During this time, Viveiros was able to get the vehicle in drive and accelerated forward dragging the officer and almost striking other vehicles in the parking lot.  Viveiros then put the vehicle in reverse and drug the officer backwards before putting the vehicle in drive and accelerating forward a second time, still dragging the officer.  Viveiros then struck a buggy corral in the parking lot, ejecting the officer from the vehicle.

Viveiros got back on Ross Clark Circle and continued to travel south, sill with no headlights on.  A concerned citizen who witnessed this incident followed Viveiros’ vehicle and continued to update the communication center on her location until  other officers were able to get Viveiros stopped in the 2200 block of Ross Clark Circle.  Viveiros then refused to get out of her vehicle again.  A K9 was utilized to apprehend Viveiros and she was taken into custody.  Viveiros and the officer were both taken to Southeast Health.  Viveiros was treated for a K9 bite and evaluated for impairment.  The officer was treated for minor injuries and released.

Viveiros was charged with one count of assault second degree with more charges pending as the investigation continues. Her bond for the assault second degree is $15,000.00.

Drug Investigation Ends With Two Arrests

On March 5, 2020 Dothan Police Department Vice Investigators concluded a week long drug investigation that ended with the arrest of two individuals.

On March 3, 2020 Vice investigators attempted to take 28 year old Javon Antonio James into custody at Executive Inn and Suites on Ross Clark Cir. in Dothan, Alabama, when he fled from officers in a vehicle. One of the occupants in the vehicle with James exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended and identified as 21 year old Cadarius Lashawn Tyson. Tyson was found in possession of illegally-possessed Alprazolam pills.  While fleeing from officers James struck two vehicles, causing minor injuries to one of he drivers, and was able to elude officers.

A search warrant of the room at the Executive Inn James was staying in was conducted and officers located drugs and firearms inside of the room. The evidence was seized and felony warrants were obtained for the arrest of Javon James.

On March 5, 2020 Vice investigators and the Dothan Police SRT Team conducted a search warrant at the Howard Johnson Motel in the 2200 block of Ross Clark Circle. James was found in possession of more drugs and firearms and taken into custody.

During the search warrants officers recovered Methamphetamine, Synthetic Marijuana, Prescription Pills, and Ecstasy Pills and two firearms.

Cadarius Lashawn Tyson was charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and one count of Attempting to Elude a Police Officers. He has bonds totaling $16,000.00.

Javon Antonio James was charged with 1 count of Drug Trafficking, 6 counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance,  2 counts of Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, 1 count of Reckless Endangerment, 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 1 count of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer with injuries. James has bonds totaling $617,000.00.

 

 

 

Prank Call Leads to Arrest

On 02/28/2020 Officers responded to a call of a firearm assault in the 300 block of Marquis Drive. Officers quickly located all individuals and determined there was no firearm assault. Investigators began following up with call that was made to the Communications Center and ended up in the 300 block of Mustang Drive.

Investigators have arrested and charged 38 year old Christina Prado with Making a False Report to a Law Enforcement Authority.

These prank calls waste valuable time and resources that can be used in protecting the community and helping people that really do need these services.

Man Arrested for Shooting Girlfriend

In the early morning hours the Dothan Police responded to a shooting in Grand Villa Estates, off of 3rd Ave. When officers arrived, they found a female victim that was shot one time in the chest.  The suspect fled from the scene prior to officers arrival.  Through the course of the investigation, a suspects name was given of Nathaniel Overton. Investigators and patrolmen swept the area looking for Mr. Overton. Information was obtained that Mr. Overton fled to Daleville and  was possibly held up in a house in a local trailer park. Daleville Police Department was contacted and went to the address that Mr. Overton was staying at. Daleville Police were able to take Mr. Overton in custody without incident.

The victim received treatment at South East Health and is expected to survive and is listed in stable condition.

Nathaniel Overton (35) was charged with Domestic Violence 1st degree and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank  the Daleville Police Department  for their assistance in apprehending Mr. Overton.

Dothan Man Arrested for Murder

The Dothan Police responded to the 800 blk of Williams Ave. When officers arrived they found the victim, Terrance Ransom (18),  shot multiple times in a yard. Mr. Ransom  was pronounced dead on the scene.  Investigators began to follow leads provided by the public and on-scene investigation.  In the early morning hours police developed a suspect and location. The suspect, Brandon Fluellen (26)  was held up in a local hotel.  After police cleared the surrounding rooms, negotiators were utilized and Mr. Fluellen exited the room without incident.

Mr. Fluellen was charged with murder and  other arrest may follow with additional suspects. Mr. Fluellen is currently being held on no bond.

Man Shoots Girlfriend in Eye

On 02/08/2020, the Dothan Police Department responded to South East Health in reference to a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they found a female victim had been shot in the eye in 1000 blk of Greentree.  Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that William Woods (33) shot his girlfriend in the eye  during an altercation.  The victim was flown to UAB for further treatment but is expected to recover.

William Woods was charged with Domestic Violence 1st Degree and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

Two Arrested for Elder Abuse of Family Member

On  01/30/2020, the Dothan Police responded to the 900 blk of Mercury Drive, in reference to elder abuse. When officers arrived, they found Annie Newby and Ida Newby, both of Dothan, had physically pulled their mother off an ambulance causing her to not receive treatment for an infection  that she has missed other appointments for.  Both suspects admitted to being care givers to their mother.

Ida Newby (41) and Annie Newby (39) were charged with Elder Abuse 2nd Degree and  they are being held on a $30,000 bond.

Dothan Police Narcotics Make Arrest for Synthetic Marijuana

On January 22, 2020 Dothan Police Narcotics Division conducting a search warrant in the 1200 block of Andrew Street. During the search warrant officers located approximately 120 grams of synthetic marijuana inside the home. Also located inside the home was another small plastic bag of Marijuana and two handguns. One of the handguns was reported stolen.

Kenneth Bondrull Morrison (38) of Dothan was arrested and charged with Drug Trafficking. He has a $250,000.00 bond. Additional charges could be forthcoming.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.
