Trio Charged with Chemical Endangerment

On January 30, 2023, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a report of possible sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16. When investigators went to make contact with the involved parties, they located three adults, three minor children, and illegal narcotics. As the investigation continued, it was discovered that one of the adults had inappropriate sexual contact with one of the minor children.

As a result of this investigation, the following individuals have been charged:

Anthony Ray Hartley Sr., 37 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. His bond was set at $45,000.00.

Kayla Michelle Tubbs, 33 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. Her bond was set at $45,000.00.

Gavin Eugene Grantham, 26 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child, one count of Willful Abuse of a Child, and one count of Sexual Abuse Second Degree. His bond was set at $66,000.00.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the Alabama juvenile privacy laws, no further information about this case will be released.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023, an infant child was presented to a local pediatric facility for treatment of a possible facial injury. Medical personnel immediately realized the severity of the injury and had the child transported to a local hospital or further evaluation. It appeared the child had some type of impact injury to the area of the forehead and eyes. The Dothan Police Department was notified and immediately began an investigation. It was determined the child was in the care and custody of his father at the time of the injury. The father’s explanation of the injury was not consistent with the type and severity of the injury. As a result, 25 year-old Christopher Curtis Rodriguez of Dothan was arrested and charged with one count of Willful Abuse of a Child.  His bond was set at $15,000.00.

It is believed that after the child has time to heal, he will make a full recovery.

Dothan Man Charged with Rape

Thursday night, February 23, 2023, Dothan Police were called to a local hospital to meet with a sexual assault victim. An investigation into the allegations was conducted and a search warrant was conducted at the location of the crime in which possible evidence was collected. As a result of the investigation, the suspect, 36 year old Ryan Harold Barber of Dothan was arrested and charged with one count of Rape First Degree. He is being held in the Houston County Jail with no bond at this time.

Woman Assaulted Police Officer

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, officers responded to the 800 block of Whiddon Street for an intoxicated and disorderly person. Officers made contact with the suspect, Latedrus Rhodes, and attempted to have her leave the property at the request of the property owner. When asked to do so, Rhodes refused. Officers advised Rhodes she was being arrested and began taking her into custody. Rhodes began to resist and fight with officers during which time she bit an officer on the arm causing minimal injury.

Latedrus Rhodes, 29 years-old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Assault Second Degree.  Her bond was set at $15,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged with Elder Abuse Once Again

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Dothan Police Department charged 30 year-old Travis Ren Mattox of Dothan with one count of Violation of Elder Abuse Protection Order and one count of Elder Abuse Second Degree. Mattox entered the residence of a family member here in Dothan and began to express violent behavior towards the victim. The victim attempted to call 911 but Mattox grabbed the victim and took the phone before destroying it. The victim was able to go to a neighbor and have them contact the Police Department. Mattox was located close to the residence and was taken into custody. Mattox is currently in the Houston County jail with no bond.

A similar incident took place in September of 2022. At the time of that incident, Mattox was charged with Violation of Elder Abuse Protection Order and Elder Abuse Second Degree also.

Stolen Property Leads to Multiple Charges

The Dothan Police Department began investigating a burglary in March of 2022 in which very specific and identifiable items were stolen. Items matching the specific and identifiable stolen items recently appeared on social media as being for sale by an individual.

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Dothan Police Department criminal investigators executed a search warrant at the residence of the seller in the 300 block of Chapelwood Drive. Investigators located two specific stolen items from the original burglary. During the search, investigators also located illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Present at the time of the execution of the search warrant were two adults and one person under the age of 18 who had been provided illegal narcotics by one of the adults.

As a result of the investigation, 21 year-old Jalen Fransis McDonald of Chapelwood Drive was charged with one count of Furnishing a Controlled Substance to a Minor, one count of Receiving Stolen Property First Degree, one count of Possession of Marijuana Second Degree, and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $47,000.00.

Also charged was 19 year-old Cameron Michael Bishop of Chapelwood Drive.  Bishop was charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree, one count of Possession of Marijuana Second Degree, and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  His bond was set at $12,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged with Multiple Counts of Child Pornography

In November of 2022, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip reported a local individual had electronically transmitted a pornographic image of an underaged minor.

These types of investigations require a large amount of time and resources to bring to conclusion. As the investigation was ongoing, the suspect was identified as 22 year-old Domingo Ortiz Velasquez of Dothan. On January 10, 2023, Velasquez was charged with one count of Dissemination of Child Pornography. For that charge, his bond was set at $30,000.00.

After his initial charge, investigators continued to gather additional evidence. As a result of the continued investigation, on February 14, 2023, Velasquez was charged with 50 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. His bond for these charges has been set at $750,000.00. It should be noted that no local minors were involved in this case.

Dothan Man Charged with Sexual Torture

On February 6, 2023, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a possible sexual abuse case involving a juvenile victim under the age of 16. As a result of the investigation, the suspect, 31 year old Clinton Dale Hillman of Dothan, was arrested on Sunday February 12, 2023, and charged with three counts of Sexual Torture. The crimes are alleged to have been committed in January of 2022. His bond was set at $180,000.00.

Due to the nature of this case and the Alabama Juvenile Privacy Laws, no further information will be released.

Dothan Woman Charged with November Murder

The Dothan Police Department has been investigating a murder that occurred on November 9, 2022, in which Samuel Jeffery Gray was shot and killed.  Earlier, the Dothan Police Department arrested Kevone Devontay Smith for his involvement in this incident.

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, the Dothan Police Department, with the assistance of Headland Police Department, located another person of interest in this case, Mia Aliyah Creech. Not only was Creech a person of interest for this incident, but she also had outstanding warrants for Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling and Criminal Mischief First Degree which occurred in September of 2022.

As a result of the ongoing November 2022 Murder investigation, 24 year-old Mia Aliyah Creech of Dothan, has now been charged with one count of Murder.  Her total bond for all charges was set at $190,000.00. At this time, no additional arrests are expected in this case.

New Charges for Murder Suspect

During the early morning hours of Sunday, February 5, 2023, the Dothan Police Department was called to the 500 block of North Foster Street in reference to a robbery of a person. After speaking to the female victim, it was determined she and the suspect, Jamie Emmanuel Townes, had an argument that led to him assaulting her and taking her purse and vehicle.  As a result, Jamie Emmanuel Townes, 31 years old of Dothan, was arrested and charged with one count of Robbery Third Degree. He currently has no bond.

At the time of this incident, Townes was out on bond for Murder. Part of his conditions of being on bond for the Murder was to not be involved in any criminal activity. Because of that, his previous bond has been revoked and he currently remains in the Houston County Jail.
