Chief of Police
All personnel in the Dothan Police Department report through the chain of command to the Chief of Police, Steven L. Parrish. The chief directly supervises all captains, the major and the police accountant. The Office of the Chief of Police can be reached at (334) 615-3601.
The chief of police is assisted by the Police Major who oversees the daily operations of the department’s different bureaus assuring they meet their operational and strategic objectives. The Police Major is Will Benny. The Major can be reached at (334) 615-3610.
Administrative Services Bureau
This bureau includes the city jail, animal services, records, ordinance compliance, technical services, crime analysis, accreditation as well as the electronics maintenance unit. The bureau is currently assigned to report to the Police Major.
Special Operations Bureau
Special Operations includes the Community Service Division, which operates various community outreach programs, the school resource officer program and crime prevention. In addition, the communications center, special response team, police K9 unit, training division, quartermaster and fleet divisions report to Captain Carlton Ott.
Investigative Services Bureau
This bureau handles all criminal investigations and is divided into units that focus on certain areas of crime including Burglary/Theft, Forgery/Fraud, Juvenile, Vice, Violent Crimes. The bureau also handles the FBI Task Force, professional standards division, polygraph unit and crime scene unit.
Patrol Services Bureau
This bureau is concerned with patrol operations, crash investigations and traffic enforcement. Patrol is the largest division in the department and is often referred to as the backbone of the department. The bureau is commanded by Captain Todd David and includes the Patrol Division, Traffic Division and School Crossing Guards.
