Robbery spree, pursuit, fatal crash and arrest

The following is a summary of the press conference provided to the media by Chief Parrish on the morning of Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

On Monday, February 25, 2019 beginning at approximately 4:30 PM the Dothan Police Department began working what would develop into a string of robberies, kidnappings and ultimately turn in to a vehicle pursuit that would end in a fatal crash in the 1000 block of Ross Clark Circle about two hours after it began.

Tragically killed in the violent car crash was Mr. Paul Roberts, 63, of Dothan. The Dothan Police Department extends sympathy to the family of Mr. Roberts as well as to all the victims and family members affected by the outcome of this incredibly unnecessary and tragic incident.

A recap of the incident is as follows:

At approximately 4:30 PM the suspect attacked and robbed a victim in the 300 block of North Alice Street. During the physical altercation the suspect fired shots at the victim, but the victim was not injured. The suspect fled with the victim’s property, including his car, a white Hyundai Santa Fe.

A short time later, the suspect arrived at a residence in Kinsey, Alabama, where he committed another robbery and kidnapping taking a victim at gunpoint. This incident is being investigated by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Following that, the suspect took the kidnapping victim to a location on Fairfield Circle in Dothan where he was released. The suspect then attempted to kidnap another couple. They managed to escape capture and the suspect left on the vehicle on which he had arrived.

At approximately 5:20 PM the suspect approached another victim near the 900 block of Murray Road, fired several shots in the air and demanded his vehicle. The suspect would then abandon the Hyundai and flee that location in a stolen Kia Sorrento.

Shortly thereafter the suspect brandished a firearm and attempted to rob another victim in the 100 block of Twitchell Road. The victim provided his wallet, but the suspect found nothing of value and threw it back at the victim before leaving the scene.

At approximately 5:30 PM the suspect approached another victim near the intersection of Ross Clark Circle and Twitchell Road. The suspect attempted to kidnap this victim, but the victim refused to cooperate and the suspect fled.

At approximately 6:15 PM an alert patrol officer spotted the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Ross Clark Circle and Reeves Street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect fled eastbound on Ross Clark Circle.

At the intersection of Ross Clark Circle and Webb Road the suspect crossed over and began driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Ross Clark Circle in the northbound lanes.

A short time later, the suspect was involved in a serious-critical accident in the 1000 block of Ross Clark Circle where one person was fatally injured and numerous others were injured as well. Those other persons hurt are expected to survive.

The suspect attempted to flee the crash and attempted to steal two more vehicles that were passing by the wreck scene. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by patrol officers following a short foot pursuit. Officers identified the suspect as Jeremy Jermain Jones, 38, of Dothan.

The suspect was then taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries following this incident. He was charged with eight counts of robbery, one count of first degree assault, leaving the scene of the accident and murder for the death of Mr. Roberts. Additional charges may be forthcoming as this investigation is still pending. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty.
